The School of Public Health, Department of Health Promotion offers the opportunity for 10 students to be part of an exciting European Study Exchange experience during 2010 and 2011.Undergraduate students studying health promotion and health science courses and postgraduate students studying health promotion and public health courses are invited to apply. Undergraduate students need to have successfully completed at least three semesters of your course before studying in Europe. This project offers an attractive $10,000 AUS scholarship to support your travel and living expenses. Selection for these scholarships will not be based purely on academic merit. This is an opportunity to study in Europe for a semester and gain credit towards your degree program.
These exciting new undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships are designed to develop capacity and resources for a global public health workforce, in particular for developing and maintaining Australia's educational relationship with Europe. The project theme is aligned to human rights and social inclusion. The generous $10,000 student scholarships will commence in 2010 (February). Scholarship applications will require students to demonstrate a commitment to health promotion and public health. While all European study programs will be delivered in English, successful applicants will be expected to develop functional language and a cultural understanding of the host country and act as ambassadors for Curtin University.
The scholarships are available for a one semester student exchange for study with one of the following Universities:
- University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany (2 students)

Interested applicants are invited to submit an application which includes:
- Academic history including 2 nominated referees from Curtin University academics
- A one page (max) personal motivation statement
- A curriculum vitae
- Students provide a preference list of European universities to attend with a rationale if appropriate. Students should also indicate their preferred semester and year of study. (Semesters in Europe commence in February and September).
The second stage of the process the School of Public Health will invite shortlisted students to attend an interview panel. The following criteria will be considered:
- Student support and confirmation of their motivation to travel
- Student suitability to be representing Curtin University abroad
- Level of maturity, diversity of experience e.g. , work experience, volunteering experience
- Student order of preference for European universities and rationale
Once successful students have been nominated students will liaise with staff from the International Office who will facilitate the exchange process.
Scholarships will be awarded for the 2010 academic intake however expressions of interest are also welcome for 2011.
Written applications should be submitted to Dr Sharyn Burns in hard copy by 4pm Friday 31 July 2009. Applications can be handed in at the School of Public Health reception on Level 3 or posted to Sharyn at the School of Public Health, Curtin University of Technology, GPO Box U1987, Perth, WA 6845. Three copies of the application should be submitted.
