School of Public Health Researcher wins the National Dieticians Award

Curtin University of Technology researcher Roslyn Giglia has won the Dieticians Association of Australia’s best New Researcher Award.
Dr Giglia’s nomination is the result of her recently completed PhD titled, Alcohol consumption and Cigarette Smoking by Australia Women: changes with Pregnancy and Lactation. Her recommendations have been included in new guidelines released by the National Health and Medical Research council (NHMRC) for drinking while breastfeeding.
Roslyn Giglia, a Research Fellow at Curtin’s School of Public Health, said she was delighted to win such a prestigious award. “It’s very rewarding to be acknowledged by my professional association” she said. “I was also pleased that my research outcomes have been incorporated into the NHMRC guidelines for drinking while breastfeeding because it has a real world application.”
Dr Giglia, of Leederville, was one of four people to be shortlisted for the award and presented her research at the association’s national conference in Darwin on 31 May.
